Teach your dog to walk with you, stay responsive, and stop pulling on leash.

This 5-week small-group class focuses on building practical leash skills for everyday walks. We’ll work on loose-leash walking, a structured heel, leash communication, and staying under control around distractions.

Does This Sound Like Your Dog?

This class may be a good fit if your dog:

  • Pulls or spends most of the walk at the end of the leash
  • Gets easily distracted by dogs, people, smells, or their surroundings
  • Walks well until something exciting comes along
  • Rushes ahead, zig-zags, or constantly changes direction
  • Has trouble staying focused and responsive on walks
  • Simply hasn’t learned how to walk calmly with you yet

Whether your dog is starting from scratch or already has some leash skills, we’ll help you build more control, better communication, and a more reliable walk.

What You'll Learn

Our goal is to give you the skills to comfortably walk your dog in everyday situations. We’ll work on both a structured heel and relaxed loose-leash walking, while teaching you how to communicate more clearly with your dog through the leash.

Throughout the five weeks, we’ll work on:

  • Building a reliable heel
  • Loose-leash walking without constant pulling
  • Leash pressure, communication, and proper handling
  • Keeping your dog responsive around distractions
  • Passing other dogs and people with better control
  • Transitioning between a structured heel and relaxed sniffing/exploring

By the end of the class, you’ll have a much clearer system for walking your dog and the skills to continue improving on your own.

Individual training in a small group setting

Every dog is different, so we don’t expect every dog in the class to follow exactly the same training approach.

During the first class, we’ll work with each dog individually to see where they’re starting, how they respond to leash pressure, and what approach makes the most sense for them. We’ll also help determine what type of training equipment is best suited to your dog.

From there, you’ll get individual guidance throughout the program while also getting the benefit of practicing around other dogs and real distractions.

With a maximum of just 6 dogs per class, there’s plenty of opportunity for hands-on help with you and your dog.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Dogs can come into the class with very different levels of experience. We’ll work from where you and your dog are currently at.

Bring whatever leash and collar or harness you’re currently using to the first class. We’ll work with your dog and let you know if we recommend any different equipment moving forward.

The right equipment can vary depending on the individual dog. We may recommend options such as flat collars, martingales, slip leads, harnesses, or prong collars. Whatever equipment we use, our focus is on using it fairly and humanely, with proper fit, clear communication, and the individual dog’s comfort and response in mind. If we recommend something new, we’ll show you how to properly fit, introduce, and use it.

Some mild reactivity doesn’t necessarily prevent a dog from participating. However, dogs with significant reactivity, aggression, or other safety concerns may be better suited for private training. We’ll talk about your dog’s behavior during your initial phone call to make sure the class is appropriate, and recommend other training options if needed.

Classes are held indoors at Dog Agility And Cafe in Hooksett, NH.
